You can find a detailed description of our products under the Featured Products menu. We consider it important to use the right type of harness for the right activity.
It is advisable to use a box for the safe transportation of dogs in a car.
However for those who occasionally transport their dog on the back seat, we recommend our Mobility Control Car Tether. The leash prevents the dog from moving freely in the car and thus disturbing the driver. The leash has a load capacity of 200 kg.
Please note! The car leash should be attached to a harness, not to a collar! The car leash is not a life-saving device, it only restricts the free movement of the dog in the car.
JULIUS-K9® has always developed its products with animal health and welfare in mind. There are scientific choices behind both the materials used and the design. JULIUS-K9® dog harnesses are based on the GreenZone design principle, which allows the dog to breathe freely and move freely. The dog harnesses, if adjusted correctly, relieve the dog’s neck, thus allowing comfortable movement. You can read more about the GreenZone principle here >>>.
OEKO-TEX® certified European raw materials, certificates and constant quality tests guarantee safety in the case of every product.
Find more detailed product-specific information on our parent website. We test the durability of our products with constant load tests in our own and Innovatex laboratories, on which a lot of videos are available.
With the right size selection and harness adjustment, our harnesses can always be used for the duration of the dog walk. At the end of the walk, it is always advisable to remove the harness from the dog and store it in a place where it is well ventilated and inaccessible to the dog.
Skin sensitivities may vary by breed and occasion. It is recommended that dogs be gradually allowed to get used to the harness. Make sure you have the right setting and the right size. Furthermore, it is important to use the right type of harness for the right activity.
If you find that your dog’s fur has rubbed, it is very likely that the dog harness has not been adjusted correctly.
Depending on the type of harness, you may experience different sizing and adjustment methods. Be sure to choose the right size of the harness, and to adjust it correctly for your dog. It is recommended to take the harness off the dog after walking.
You can see our size chart and details on how to adjust the harness here >>>.
The JULIUS-K9® chest harnesses have been designed for ease of use and for simple application. These types of harnesses are therefore most commonly used during city walks or when working with service dogs. As a result of improper leash use, sizing, or harness adjustment, some dogs can still wriggle out of the harness.
If the leash is inadvertently pulled in the opposite direction to how the harness was put on, the harness might be pulled off the dog. This can happen if:
ATTENTION:
Dog harnesses are designed to guide the dog in a gentle, neck-sparing way on the leash, to hold the dog, and to make it possible for the owner to hold it back in case of an emergency. A dog harness is not a coercive tool! When facing the dog, do not pull the leash towards you and never pull the dog after you on a leash because it will hurt them. Improper leash treatment can cause the dog to try to escape. The owner would be responsible for the dog pulling loose from the harness should this happen.

How to safely walk your dog in a harness
If the dog is prone to panic or feels insecure near traffic, it is recommended to use the handle on the top of the harness to help the dog.

It is also a good idea to use the collar and dog harness together with a double carabiner leash while walking. In this way, the dog can be led safely with one hand and the collar does not overload the dog’s neck if it needs to be held back suddenly. The Y-belt or pressure distribution pad, which can be retrofitted to the harness, also allows the harness to rest securely and comfortably.
How to adjust the dog harness
Proper sizing and adjustment is essential for any type of harness. Before using the harness for the first time, it is very important to read the instructions carefully and to follow them. In the case of chest harnesses, adjust the girth strap of the harness so that only your palms can be slid between the inner lining of the harness and the back of the dog. The chest strap should allow four fingers to fit in between the dog’s front leg and the girth strap. Harnesses that are set too loose can be dangerous because the dog can get out of them, but overly tightening harnesses should also be avoided.
How to correctly walk your dog on a leash
When walking, the leash should always be loose, and only held tightly when there is a good reason, for example if you are forced to stop the dog suddenly due to a traffic situation. If the dog is scared, panics, or is just unwilling to move on, under no circumstances should you try to go any further and pull. If possible, keep the leash loose, but keep it short and try to get hold of the harness handle by getting behind the dog.
Getting certain dogs used to a harness can be difficult in some rare cases. In cases like these we recommend seeking help from a professional dog handler who works with positive reinforcement.

The most common cause of buckle failure is that the dog chews on it, and the traces of this are clearly visible on the product. In such cases, the warranty does not apply.
Please do not leave the equipment unattended near your dog.
For sizes 3XS/Baby 1 to Small/size Mini the D-ring is a nickel-chrome plated iron ring.
For sizes Medium/size 0 to 3XL/size 4 the D-ring is a stainless metal ring.
JK9 have already switched to plastic parts in the case of our smaller sizes, up to size Small/size Mini. These are no longer prone to rusting of course and are equipped with the new high-tech plastic rings. These plastic rings are being phased in gradually.
We generally do not recommend using the smaller sizes in salty environments, even if they are kept out of the water. Salt vapor will permeate through micro pores in the long run. Also see how to clean your harness for more on this.
The closeable hook and loop fastener on the chest strap was one of the first innovations of JULIUS-K9®, which has enjoyed a proven track record on the market for over 20 years. The primary cause of damage done to the hook and loop fastener is the dog having chewed on it. Also, care must be taken to keep it clean, as failing to do so will result in it becoming more difficult to close.
If you think your hook and loop fastener is damaged for another reason, contact us at sales@jk9.co.nz.

The unwanted opening of the hook and loop fastener of the chest strap can occur in two cases: if the adhesive part of the two surfaces is less than 10 cm, so in this case the chest strap is set too large , and secondly if the chest strap is not closed back on itself and instead, incorrectly, attached to the interchangeable custom patch field.

Julius-K9® harnesses alone should not cause the dog to overheat as they only cover a fraction of their body. It is normal for you to experience that the surface of the harness appears moist after use. Put in a well ventilated place to dry. The OEKO-TEX® certified, high quality inner linings provide ventilation for the IDC®Powerharnesses. In addition, for the summer season we recommend our IDC®Color & Gray® harness or the IDC®Powair summer harness, which is particularly well ventilated thanks to its 3D material. It also has a special water retaining layer, which allows you to keep your pet cool witth the help of some water.
If the harness is damaged as a result of being chewed by the dog, there is no warranty replacement.
Be sure to check that you have all the parts of the harness. If you cannot find some pieces/parts, consult a veterinarian immediately.
When using the harnesses, external physical influences may occur which may damage the raw material of the product. It is important to choose the right product for the given conditions and to avoid physical contact with dangerous, sharp tools and objects.
Be careful not to let your dog chew on the harness.
Lateral movement of the harnesses can be caused by incorrect adjustment of the girth strap.
